Cotton clothing for every occasion

Kapas, a three-year-old ethnic boutique run by young entrepreneurs, is making waves in south and south-eastern Bangalore. It is a story of passion turned into profession . The proprietors, Alima, and her husband, Saleem, are both former IT professionals.

Kapas, (meaning cotton in Sanskrit) captures the magic of cotton. The fabric, prints and designs have a pan India coverage. Simple but elegant Mangalagiri and Ikkat weaves, traditional Jaipuri and Kutch prints, beautiful Bagh and Bagru prints on fine Maheshwari and Chanderi silk, elaborate aari or zari work on full sets from Delhi and Kolkata, are just a few of the products on offer.

Products include dupattas that may be matched with woven or printed fabric, ethnic saris, pre-matched full sets, mix-and-match ready-to-wears such as ethnic kurthis, chudis, salwars and contemporary leggings as well as ethnic jewellery.

The boutique has two branches. The one in HSR Layout is set in a cosy home environment with cane furnishings, hand decorated walls and ethnic artefacts.

This branch provides complete tailoring and embroidery services as well. The other at Kundanahalli Gate is set in a mall environment but still captures the ethnic ambience with brick-walled shelves and bamboo fixtures.

Lovers of ethnic wear will find Kapas a real treat because of its handpicked combination of colorus and materials, relaxed ambience, warm service and importantly, appealing prices.
