Bright yet elegant, that's Anshu Modi's creation for this wedding season

THE GODS have risen, the mortals are making merry and the couturiers are eager to adorn them. For most, traditional richness with a contemporary touch is the look of the season. Take this eye-catching design from designer Anshu Modi. "This jamewar lehenga dwells into colours, embroideries as well as deceptively simple texturing and layering. With turk, pink, and bright red colours, this lehnga has kamdani zari, zardosi, stones and gotas all intricately matched to depict the cultural richness of Indian design. Stress has been on special embroidery presented with modern texture," explains Anshu. The cultural richness from Calcutta that lays stress on special traditional embroidery is what distinguishes Anshu Modi from her contemporary designers today. Her ensembles in this new collection consist of regular saris to ghaghra saris or even crushed saris draped innovatively as well as light and heavy lehengas and, of course, ghaghras. "This time though I have put more stress on lighter lehengas keeping in mind the tastes of today's generation, but there is no missing the embroideries, gold leafs and rich zardosi which are the trademark of our label."

"For this collection, we have managed an intricate balance of pastel colours with bright yet elegant tones on all that we have put forward. The designs range from couture to bridal wear. However, the workmanship, with beads, pearls and a lot of ornamentation are in keeping with the wedding season in mind."
