Wary about new directors

THE MUCH-HYPED Dhum, Shambu and Pranam, released last week, have put several producers on guard about new directors. Raju Oopati, Sureshvarma and Malli who directed these three movies were quite confident that the movies would make the cash registers ring, but the initial draws at the box-office proved otherwise. Producers now seem to have second thoughts about this new crop and a section of them feel that seasoned directors are always a safe bet. Now, this is what one calls acting in haste. Such a decision may mean a severe blow to the technicians who are aspiring to make it big in the tinsel world. Besides, the success of a movie depends on several factors, the most important being the mood of the audience.
