Raghavendra Rajkumar dons Sunil Dutt's role, writer turned actor Mohan replays Mehmood and Anant Nag takes up Kishore Kumar's role while Ranjitha playes the female lead . Directed by M.S. Rajasekhar the film retains two popular tunes from the Hindi version - Mere Samne Wali Kidiki se and Ek Chatura Naari Badi Hoshiari, with music director Rajesh Ramnath composing the rest of the songs.

Raghavendra Rajkumar, second of the three actor-sons of Kannada icon Dr. Rajkumar, returns to acting after a six-year hiatus. While his other brothers Sivarajkumar and Puneeth Rajkumar are busy with their acting careers, Raghavendra was looking after the home productions these past many years. The three brothers met at the muhurath of Pakkadamane. Padosan was also remade into Telugu in the Seventies by K. Vasu again as Pakkintammayi with

Jayasudha, S.P. Balasubrahmanyam and Chandramohan. Kannada audiences have to wait for 30 years for a version in their language.
