The right warp, woof... and price

AT A time when every other garment shop is selling clothes of big brands, leading to increase in the price, there is one readymade garment showroom which has brought price of its goods down by not having a brand name.

Vishal Mega Mart, at New Delhi's Rajouri Garden, opened its shutters this past week. Covering a sprawling area of 17,000 square foot, along with parking facilities, this showroom has three floors with more than 60,000 items, ranging from men's wear, women's wear and dresses for kids.

The chief executive officer of this chain of garment stores, Lalit Agarwal, says, "Vishal Mega Mart is a unique one-stop shopping experience for Delhiites with affordable dresses. This is ideal for those families whose income ranges from Rs. 10,000 to 40,000 per month."

Lalit explains that his group has adopted an intelligent mechanism - buying off clothes in bulk and having a state-of-the-art inhouse production - to reduce the price on jeans, toppers, denims, saris and frocks.

Saris ranging from Rs. 300 to 8000 are available. From Chennai the famous and rare Kanchivaram saris are procured. Then there are saris with zardozi and exquisite embroidery done on them. Famous Sambalpuri and Kalki are obtained from the weavers of Orissa while Tant saris are transported from Kolkata. Salwar-Kameez has been priced between Rs. 400 to 1000. Men's formal shirts start from Rs. 125 and the highest price is Rs. 750. Trousers range from Rs. 275 to 900. For kids there are the ubiquitous Baba suits - from Rs. 200 to 600 and frocks range from Rs 150 to 1000.

Vishal Private Limited is one of the top-notch retailers of readymade garments with a turnover of Rs. 60 crores. They have been in the retailing business for the past 15 years. The unique concept to woo customers to the showroom is putting reasonable price on clothes for both men and women.
