The fruit of Karam

IT SEEMS as if the Filmfare award for Priyanka Chopra has had a humbling effect on her. Though she still makes scribes wait for long, nonetheless she makes up for it by being "profusely sorry".

"I was very tired," she reasons as she speaks on her "amazingly different role" in Karam.

What makes her happy about her role in Karam is that it is "performance-oriented and yet stylised". She plays the wife of John Abraham. Both get separated and it becomes emotionally draining for them to cope with life without each other. "In this role I had to go through emotional turmoil, sometimes even after the take was over. Though I believe one should leave the character on the sets before going home, with this film it did not always happen. Memories of shots used to haunt me at night too," says Priyanka. Such was her involvement with the film that in a scene where she tries to kill herself, she "actually cut her veins with a knife", she recalls. And she admits , "By nature too, I am a very emotional person". She is a Cancerian, born on July 18, she informs.

Her character in Aitraaz has won her the Filmfare award for a negative role, but she is not going to repeat the role. "If the audience see me as a seductress twice, how will they accept me in a wife's role? So I am making conscious choices not to be repeated. My career graph in just two years in the industry boasts of different roles in every film. It feels pleasant but also adds a sense of responsibility as producers sign me with great expectations," she says. Now Yaqeen, Barsat and Waqt are her upcoming releases this year. Before one asks her about her role, she chuckles, "All three are so different". Let's wait and watch!
