Some easy-to-make recipes of nutritious drinks and lunches for children

Lunchtime need no longer be boring. Here are some easy-to-eat lunches for school going children. What's more, they are packed with nutrition too.

Ingredients

Palak - one small bunch Wheat flour - 1cup Gram flour - half cup Soya bean flour - 1tbsp Salt - to taste Butter - 1tbsp

Method

Cook the palak in a little water. Liquidise and make a puree.

Mix the three flours, salt, butter. Add the palak puree. Make a soft dough with water. Roll out into puris and deep fry.

Ingredients

Banana - 1 Mango - 1 piece Milk - 300ml Sugar - 3tsp Crushed ice - 4 cubes

Method

Peel and slice ripe banana and mango. Add sugar and milk to it. Blend the mixture well in a blender till light, frothy and smooth.

Add crushed ice. Pour into the water bottle and keep it in the fridge. Morning when the child goes to school take it out of the fridge and send it for lunch time. It will provide energy and nutrition.

Orange - 1 Pomegranate - 2 Sugar - 3tbsp Cold water

Method

Remove the skin and fibre of fruits. Add sugar and cold water. Blend the mixture well in a blender. Strain it and keep in the fridge. Serve at lunch time.

Peanuts - 50gm Cashew nuts- 50gm Almonds - 50gm Sugar - 150gm Water - 100ml Almond essence - 2 drops

Method

Roast, skin and grind peanuts. Grind cashew nuts and almonds fine. Add sugar and water in a heavy-bottomed pan. Cook with constant stirring to a two-thread consistency. Mix the powdered nuts into the syrup on an extremely slow fire to avoid further thickening of the syrup. When it has a biscuit dough like consistency, make a ball with greased hands. Roll it on a greased board with a greased rolling pin fast. Cut into different shapes when half set.

Ingredients

Fresh bread - one slice cut horizontally from full loaf Raisins fried in ghee - 1tbsp Chopped cashew nuts - 1tbsp Honey - 1tsp Butter - 1tsp

Method

Take a long slice of bread and remove the crust. Apply butter on top of the bread. Mix honey with chopped nuts and raisins. Spread it evenly on the slice. Roll it like a Swiss-roll being careful to keep the edge straight. Fasten with tooth picks. Wrap in a butter paper and leave it to chill for 10 minutes. Cut the roll into 1.5 cm thick slices.
