CINEMA Deepak Tijori is back

He was the hero of the 1993 hit Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa and wooed us in films like Pehla Nasha and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander! In the interim Deepak Tijori has directed five films including Oops , Khamosh , Fareb , Tom Dick and Harry , and Fox , but was behind the arc lights. Now, after an eight-year hiatus from acting, Tijori makes a comeback with Department in a brand new avatar.

Image makeover

Interestingly when Tijori when to Ram Gopal Varma for a role, he was instantly refused on the grounds that his image and attitude just don't match the character of Dhanaji in his film Department . Ramu thought he was too chirpy, sweet and soft for that role whereas he was looking for a serious stud. Tijori took it as a challenge and bought time from RGV to try once again and when he went back to Ramu's office after a month with his new look (moustache et all), not a soul could recognise him. Needless to add, Tijori bagged the role of Dhanaji. “I was asked not to smile at all in the film; only in the shaadi scene was I allowed a brief step,” shares Tijori.

Blueberry Films — whose movie Tijori is soon to direct — has asked him to act in the same look after watching Department . Tijori has also shot for the soon-to-be-released Kabir Sadanand's film Project 36 , produced by Viacom, where he plays the main antagonist. Looks like Tijori is back with a bang and here to stay.
