Here are some scrumptious cakes and cookies to add cheer to the cold weather

Try these lip-smacking sweets that make teatime a festive affair.


IngredientsButter- 7 tbsp, Lime - 5, Orange - 1, Vanilla wafers - 250 gm, Cream cheese softened - 1 kg, Granulated sugar - one and a half cup, Salt - quarter tsp, Eggs - 4, Creamy yoghurt - 225 gm, Orange juice - quarter cup, Orange and lemon slices - for decoration Method: Preheat oven to 175°C. Grate 1 tbsp of lime peel and keep aside, grate another 2 tsp peel and squeeze half a cup of lemon juice. From the orange, grate half tsp peel and squeeze half cup of juice. Place vanilla wafers and lime peel in a food processor and make fine crumbs. While oven preheats, melt butter in a tin. Stir ingredients into melted butter in tin, then press on to bottom and 2 inches upside of tin to form crust. Bake crust 15 minutes. Cool completely in pan on wire track. In a large bowl, with mixer at medium speed, beat cream cheese until smooth, occasionally scraping bowl with rubber spatula. Gradually beat in sugar and salt until blended. At low speed, beat in eggs one at a time, sour cream, orange juice, orange peel, lime juice and remaining lime peel just until blended and smooth. Pour cream cheese mixture into batter. Bake for 45 minutes. Turn oven off and leave the cake in oven for an hour to cool completely in tin on wire rack. Garnish with orange and lemon slices.


IngredientsApples (medium sized) - 10, Candy sprinkles - 1 cup, Alpenliebe toffee - 15, Milk - quarter cup, Ice-cream sticks - 10 Method: Line baking dish with grease proof paper. Insert ice-cream stick into stem ends of apples. Place candy sprinkles in bowl. Set aside. Place the Alepenliebe toffee in a heat proof glass bowl with milk. Microwave on high, stirring, until toffee melts and becomes smooth. Dip each apple into the caramel; scrape off excess; immediately dip into candies, coating bottom and two-thirds up sides. Place on baking sheet and refrigerate till set, about 20 minutes.


IngredientsMaida - 175 gm, Baking powder - half tsp, Caster sugar - 60 gm, Butter - 100 gm, Salt - a pinch, Egg yolk - 1,Lemon rind - 1 tsp Method: Cream the butter and castor sugar in a bowl until light and fluffy. Add egg yolk and lemon rind. Sift the flour, baking powder and salt, and blend with a spoon. Then work by hand to get dough consistency. Knead lightly till smooth. Chill for half an hour. Grease baking sheet and rollout the dough on a floured surface to 1/8" thick. Take an old bobbin, grease lightly with oil and press it firmly into the dough to create a pretty pattern. Place slightly apart on baking sheet, refrigerate for 25-33 minutes. Preheat the oven to 160°C. Bake the cookies for 25-30 minutes until lightly coloured. Remove from baking sheet on wire rack to cool.LILY BABU JOSE
