Spice up fruit juice with herbs and nuts

With the onset of summer, how about chilling with some ice-cold mocktails to beat the heat.

Grape cocktail

IngredientsBlack grape juice: 2 cups
Orange juice: 1 cup
Carrot juice: 2 cups
Crushed ice
Freshly roasted cumin seeds (powdered): one-fourth tsp
Black powder: one-fourth tsp
Salt: to taste
Sugar: to taste
For garnish
Sprig of mint MethodMix all the ingredients together. Place in refrigerator till time to serve. Serve in cocktail glass with a sprig of mint.

Orange Melody

Orange juice: 2 cups
Water: half a cup
Ginger juice: half a cup
Sugar: three fourth cup
Crushed ice: one cup
Lemon juice: one-fourth cup
Chilled water: 2 cups
For garnish
Sprigs of mint
Slices of orange
MethodPut the ginger juice, half cup water and sugar into a vessel. Place on low heat till the sugar dissolves and bring to boil. Remove from heat and cool. Mix in the orange juice and lemon juice. Keep chilled. Before serving, fill half of each glass with orange melody. Add crushed ice and fill the rest of the glass with chilled water. Top each glass with a sprig of mint and slice of orange.

Black currant juice

IngredientsBlack currant: 80
Aniseeds: 6 tsp
Almonds: 10
Sugar: 6 tbsp
Water: six cups
For garnish
A few rose petals MethodSoak all the ingredients in two cups of water over night, preferably in a new earthen pot. Put the ingredients in the mixer the next day. Extract juice and strain well. Return to the same pot. Add more water and cool. Serve with rose petals in each glass.

Fruit punch

IngredientsOrange juice: one and a half cup
Orange peel: one-fourth peel
Hot water: 1 cup
Jaggery: 1 cup
Sweet lime juice: one and a half cup
Lemon juice: 2 tbsp
Lemon grass: four strands
MethodPlace the orange skin and lemon grass in a vessel. Add one cup hot water. Cover vessel and set aside for ten minutes. Melt the jaggery and allow the mixture to cool. Strain and add the jaggery. Mix in the orange, lemon and sweet lime juices.
