Smooth take-off

UNLIKE OTHER professions, to be a successful movie star you need more than your father's surname, connections and financial clout.

The essence of success in films is audience acceptance and the box-office draw.

The only newcomer to have been accepted by the Tamil audience during the last one year is Srikanth. A former model, he has screen presence. His debut film "Roja Kootam" and second film "April Madhathil" did above average business at the box-office. Srikanth said, "I have tried to create a new slot for myself with which the audience can relate to.

The characters in both my films were down-to-earth".

Srikanth is pinning a lot of hope on "Manasellam", his third film, which was released last week, produced by `Oscar' Ravichandran.

The film is directed by debutant Santhosh. Trisha Krishnan is the female lead.
