Self-confidence sees Mr. Andhra through

"A keen interest in what one does and confidence in one's own abilities, will enable that person excel in the chosen goal," says Vinukonda Dilip, who bagged both the `Mr. Andhra' crown and the `Mr. Talent' award at the `Haywards 5000 Mr. Andhra 2003' contest held in Hyderabad last month.

Standing at 6' 3", Dilip's height coupled with his physique and good looks gave him an edge over others in making it to the top. His father, V.S. Rao, is a Deputy General Manager (Electrical) in the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. "I owe my success to the constant support and guidance of my parents," says Dilip.

He got a break in modelling, when he was doing his Bachelor of Business Management from Gitam College in 2000. He was picked up for the Kinetic GF 125 promotion campaign. But it was the modelling for Arrow, which put him in the limelight. In 2002, he made it among the top 19 in the `Lee Mr. India 2002' contest. He subsequently did a ramp show with noted choreographer, Rahul Dev Shetty, once again for Arrow and it proved to be resounding success.

Dilip has modelled for Kinetic, Lee, Arrow and Wrangler. He has done ramp shows in Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad. He had also proved himself in sports and emerged as the South Zone champ in the 1500 m. and 800 m. races. He represented AP in the junior volleyball nationals nine times.

What about films? "After the Mr. Andhra contest, a few producers approached me with offers. But I am in no hurry to grab whatever roles come my way. I prefer waiting for the right opportunity to foray into films," he says.

"Right now I am concentrating more on ramp shows and modelling as my ambition is to become Mr. India," says Dilip. Given the confidence and determination in his voice, there need be no doubt that he would make it to the top.
