Objects of beauty

"BETWEEN HEAVEN And Earth", an exhibition-cum-sale of rare textiles from South East Asia will be held at Amethyst, Sundar Mahal, 14, Padmavathi Road, Jeypore Colony, Gopalapuram, from December 7 to 14, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. There will be plenty to choose from — treasures from the East-Chinese chests and traditional woodwork, semi-precious jewellery from Amrapalli, Indo-western ensembles by Sunitha Shanker, khadi clothing and saris by Neeru Kumar of Tulsi, ethnic wear by Anuradha Vakil and latest collections from Weaver's Studio, Hidden Harmony, Sukritta Singh, Citrus, Sarah Eapen and INKA and exotic amber by John Bowman.

That's not all. There will be another exhibition, at the same venue, of collages titled "Visions" by Jean-marie Lanthier who has worked extensively with stained glass in Canada. Collages are a recent departure. His works over the last six months will be featured here. Also on display are limited edition art from the Khoj Artists Workshop and contemporary stainless steel by Berry and Stettler.

Lights and woodwork by Nadja Lokschin and Jayamoorthy feature in yet another exhibition, at the same venue, titled "Sculpted Light". Currently based in Auroville, Nadja has studied jewellery design and setting at Vevey and Geneva. Her design career spans 30 years, during which she has exhibited her creations all over the world. Jayamoorthy is a master woodcraftsman who prefers to work with wood species like padak, vengai and manja karmai. This is his first exhibition.
