ALCOHOL MAY be bad for the health and loud decibel levels damaging for the ears, and neither goes with an athletic lifestyle, but when they get together with one of the trendiest names in sports gear, they add up to fashion for the image conscious young and upwardly mobile. So champagne flowed and the stereos belted out music when Nike the footwear and sports equipment manufacturers opened their flagship store at New Delhi's Mathura Road the other day. Sprawling over an area of 3000 square feet this swanky store - built in natural wood, glass and steel - is the third largest Nike store in the country and the biggest on Mathura Road.

The rostrum was not of full length - the kind that is built when the fashion shows are held - but that did not stop models Rajat Raina, Udita Goswami, Rajat Vohra, Divya Jaitley and Amit Ralli from making a sprightly display. The store epitomises Nike's brand identity - sporty, energetic and a source of inspiration for the athletic types. The models came in athletic and active lifestyle footwear, apparel, accessories and equipment.

The futuristic store with a versatile design and visual merchandising concepts is in sync with the seasonal changes in Nike's product line.

For those who crave those bulging biceps there are heavy dumbbells and other fitness gear. Also knee caps, finger bands, racquets, bags and towels, besides tennis apparel. And if a decision eludes you, the well-informed staff is ready with tips.
