Metro school montage

The Department of C.C.R.T., New Delhi, has invited applications from pupils studying between Std. VI and Std. X for sanction of scholarships under the artistic talent promotion scheme. The objective is to nurture the talents of students in arts and crafts like music, dance and painting.

Three students from the district would be selected for the scholarship under which an amount of Rs.200 per month would be given to the selected candidates. The District Education Officer, K.L.N. Varma, has called upon the headmasters of various schools in the district to contact him for the application forms by December 15.

A meeting was organised at the Visakhapatnam chapter of PEAS (Programme for environmental awareness in schools) to mark the inauguration of the first PEAS Club on Tuesday.

K. Ramamurthy, a senior advocate, elightened the students of St. Anthony's High School about the fallout of the Bhopal gas tragedy which occurred in 1984. He called upon the students to be more responsible in preserving the earth and safeguarding the environment.

The executive director, ETASI - Timpany Schools, David Samuel, the principal, Annie Cherian, the correspondent of St. Anthony's School, Rev.Fr. Bal Shourie, the head master, Marya Das, and the regional coordinator of PEAS, Valli Ramgopal, were present.

K. Shika, Std. IX pupil of Ramakrishna Public School, N.A.D. Kotha Road, has bagged 100 per cent marks in the cyber child talent test conducted by GV Cyberteck. She had also secured the first place in the solo classical dance competition for seniors organised by the Rotary Club of Viskhapatnam Central.

The D.A.V. Public School, Butchirajupalem, conducted a quiz on the epics, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, and the Bhagavad Gita recently. In all, 19 schools participated and six of them qualified for the finals.

Sri Krishna Vidya Mandir and the host school bagged the top honours. The D.A.V. Public School, Anakapalle, and the Sai Dolphin School, bagged the second and third prizes respectively. The host school principal, C.V. Shankar, conducted the quiz.
