METRO PLUS

Introduction

I never cease to be thrilled and amazed by the talent in this magnificent city. The exciting bit is that most of the talent, especially concerning food, is nurtured in homes, within families. You can be sure that the family that bakes together stays together. The daughter makes time after her MBA classes to assist her mother, while the son does the tasting. Meet the James family, which not only makes desserts, chocolates and ice creams but also interesting candles.

Let's take a look at their candles, which can sit pretty on our dining tables (also make for unique gifts). Cheery gel candles, pink frosted candles and some set in wine glasses too. Priced between Rs. 30 and Rs. 100, they add drama and romance to one's table.

However, Patricia and Christabel need advance notice, especially since the gel candles need time to set. You can also ask the mother-daughter team to put interesting little objects into the transparent gel of the candle. They make 12 varieties of chocolates — must try their orange and peanut — coconut lovers go for the coconut. Patricia's strawberry cheesecake and black forest cake are also well loved. Ask for the soft and creamy black forest cake (Rs. 275 per kg) or the chocolate truffle (Rs. 280 per kg). Patricia also offers classes in baking, dessert, ice cream and chocolate making. She takes only 5-10 students at a time. Patricia and Christabel James, 19, Kothari Lane, Nungambakkam, ph: 28259558.
