Healthcare and the Net

THE INTERNET has become the most sought-after medium of communication and exchange of information. To make use of the technology effectively, a two-day management development programme on Internet-based knowledge management system for the Indian pharmaceutical and healthcare industry, was conducted by the Icfaian business school in Chennai, recently.

Like all other industries, the pharmaceutical and the healthcare industry is steadily growing, and is a highly competitive sector of our economy. Doctors, hospitals, nursing homes and patients constitute the clientele for the pharmaceutical industry. The objective of the workshop was to help the participants to effectively manage the knowledge gained from the Internet and implement it in the areas of medico-marketing, healthcare management, product management and product launches, and in training medical representatives.

It highlighted the code of ethics formulated by the IFPMA. Redefining the paradigms of marketing — the four `Ps' (product, price, place, promotion), the programme threw light on customer relationship management as an important aspect within the ambit of pharmaceutical marketing.

Faculty from the Icfaian business school and other guest speakers from the industry spoke about the various application systems and the latest methodologies available to develop a cost-effective cutting-edge technology. The participants included medical practitioners, medical representatives, personnel from pharmaceutical companies and professionals from the health care sector.
