Can-do race

B angalore's motorsports enthusiasts had a chance to try their skills and ingenuity in designing a miniature remote-controlled race car in the Red Bull Racing Can contest held in the City on August 10.

The organisers, makers of the energy drink brand, said it's an event where 12 teams compete per location on a set course with custom remote-control cars. But to ensure fair play, the chassis of all cars are the same. It's the body of the racers, aerodynamics and particularly design that make the difference. And that's where metal joins the race! The body, aerodynamic features and design is made of the drink cans. It is a challenge for engineering geniuses and daredevil-racers alike.

The aim is to create a remote-controlled mini racing machine that can be expertly navigated past a tricky course to the finish line.

The venue of the event, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, was abuzz with excitement as some of the top collegiate teams, mostly consisting of engineering students, besides amateur racing buffs, battled for a spot on the podium.

Race Dynamics from Christ University emerged winners, while Red Racers from Dayanand Sagar College, and Charging Bulls from BMS College, took the second and third spot. It was a keen contest between the teams to assemble their dream machines virtually racing against time with their college mates and spectators egging them on.

Race Dynamics, which comprised Binoy John and Rahul Sharan were delighted with their success. “What makes it special is that we don't have an engineering back ground,” said the duo, who are big F1 racing fans.

Race Dynamics will now square off against teams from Delhi, Pune, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai in a National final on September 1.

The overall champion in the National final will go on to participate in the World Red Bull Can championship, against 24 other teams from rest of the world.

The winner also gets an opportunity to interact with the official Red Bull racing team in the maiden F1 Indian Grand Prix scheduled in October.
