RAJNIKANTH HAS proved once again that he is the biggest brand in Tamil films with the successful audio launch of "Chandramukhi". Three days after its launch, 1,62,000 audiocassettes and 45,000 CDs were sold, according to Sanjay Wadhwa of AnAK Audios which is marketing it. He says that last year's big audio hits in Tamil are yet to reach this figure! Rajnikanth's detractors who had been shouting from the rooftop that the superstar's charisma had faded were shocked by the kind of adulation and response the actor got for the "Chandramukhi" audio. To avoid piracy, AnAK Audios has used a silicon liner inside the cassette cover along with a photograph of Rajnikanth in a coloured background and a hologram on top. Rajni's introductory song in the film "Devuda, Devuda... ", written by Vaali, is the pick of the album and Vidyasagar has succeeded in pleasing the superstar's fans.

TODAY IS Surya's big day. Finally, his "Mayaavi", directed by Singam Puli, is releasing worldwide with a record 153 prints. "Mayaavi" is a breezy romantic entertainer in which Surya plays a tourist guide who kidnaps Jyothika, a movie star! Jo plays herself on screen and she has dubbed in her own voice for the first time. The on-screen chemistry between the lead pair is said to be terrific and the peppy music of Devi Sri Prasad is a major plus point for the film. "Mayaavi" is being aggressively promoted by its producer Kalaipuli S. Thanu. He claims that the vinyl hoarding of "Mayaavi" (near Koyambedu bus stand) is the biggest ever for a film in India. It is 60 feet tall and 120 feet wide! Will these promotional tricks work magic at the box-office? Wait and watch.

A satisfying sequel

"MEET THE Fockers" is a sequel to one of the most popular comedies of all times "Meet The Parents". The film has grossed a whopping $275 million in 63 days at the U.S. box-office and is releasing at Sathyam Cineplex this week. It has an awesome star cast of Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller who were part of the original and all hell breaks loose when the Byrnes family meets the Focker family of Dustin Hoffman and Barbara Streisand for the first time. And as sequels go, it has many scenes that are mere variations of the original such as the sit down dinner of the family going wrong and the sports competition turning topsy-turvy. "Meet The Fockers" is nowhere near the original but is still a satisfying sequel.
