Back to the roots

NOTED DIRECTOR Bharathiraaja after a bitter battle with the censors has finally managed to get his latest film "Eera Nilam" cleared by the revising committee. This director who has always excelled in making films set in a village milieu is trying to recreate the magic once again in "Eera Nilam".

The protagonist played by Suhasini is a war widow. She sends both her sons to the army, and they die in the Kargil war. The third son (Manoj) who looks after the farm is her only solace, but she decides to send him also to serve the country. She takes up the plough to sow the seeds in the field, and then the story takes a new twist.

Bharathiraaja made the film on a shoestring budget and has all newcomers in the cast other than Suhasini and Manoj. The highlights are said to be the rustic dialogues penned by Thenmozhi and Suhasini's performance.
