Ram Mishra was always curious about the stories his mother told him. They involved gods, celestial weapons, miracles and flying machines.
And so, when he was studying MBA a couple of years ago, he began to search for answers.
This is resulted in Armour Of God , the first part of the Chakra Trilogy . Launched recently, this second novel of his is not a story about just Indian mythology but one that tries to unveil its mysteries.
Fantasy meets the modern
“It’s about one person and yet it’s not. It’s about how we look at mythology and how some scientific aspects of it get over looked. The book is a fantasy set in modern times but has doses of science fiction as well,” says Ram.
“I have taken facts and scientific data put forth by historians and scientists, linked them and given rational explanations to different events.”
Armour Of God is about a man’s discovery of his destiny. A great warrior, born with a divine armour during the Dwapara Yuga achieved honour only after his death. Now, thousands of years later, a young boy’s world is turned upside down as the truth about his birth and destiny is revealed.
“There are at least four major characters in the book. In fact, the trilogy has about 15 to 20 major characters. While the story is inspired by the Puranas and The Mahabharata , it is still a modern story. There are some questions I try to answer through the book. Are these gods really human beings? If not, what were they?”
Plenty of resource material
Ram, a sales and marketing consultant for an MNC, took more than three years to put the book together and publish it.
“I began writing the book when I was studying my MBA, and spent my days sifting through volumes and volumes of texts, documents and research papers. There is so much information that we never knew about our own myths, attributing various aspects and events to different scientific phenomena. We need to discover our own roots and heritage,” he says.
Ram is currently working on the second part of the Chakra Trilogy .
“The chakra refers to Vishnu’s Sudharshana chakra. It’s an intrinsic part of the series. While the first part just sets the scene for it, the chakra will come into focus more in the next two books.”
(Armour Of God is available at leading bookstores for Rs. 325 )
