India Expo Centre and Mart at Greater Noida Expressway is the latest destination for shoppers interested in handicrafts

If one were till now looking for block printing, tie-and-dye, embroidery, crochet, cut work, mirror work, brocade, zari work, etc. under one roof, then one had to wait till an exhibition came to town. But this wait is over as the Export Promotion Council For Handicrafts has brought everything together through the India Expo Centre and Mart at Greater Noida Expressway, which was inaugurated this past week. To start with, the Indian Furnishing, Flooring and Textile Expo 2006 has been organised. First of its kind in India, the show, whose last day is this Monday, is spread over 2,35,000 sq. meters. IFFETEX'06 ensures that hand woven clothes to home furnishings, flooring to jewellery could be bought under one roof. The range has been displayed on three floors that are centrally air-conditioned. Colours are not banal here. Khadi is available in vegetable colours like carrot, light yellow and orange. Beaded kurtas, inexpensive jewellery, motifs, linen bedspreads, curtains, pottery and ceramics, glassware, cane and bamboo products, carpets and other items are there to attract the customers. NIFT students have come forward to encourage the Indian artisans who are not getting their due despite being highly talented. To bring out the talent, the students went to remote areas of the country. The proceeds from the sales at the Mart go directly to the artisan without any middleman. The Mart is expected to be a hub of activities like conferences, seminars, buyer-seller meets, fashion shows and thematic displays.
