YOUNG TURK Jyotiraditya Scindia was given a rousing reception

Hyderabad is bowled over by this young scion of Gwalior

The move from being a corporate jetsetter, into the rough and tumble world of politics can be quite a tough task, but not for someone like the Maharaja of Gwalior.A few years ago, the 34- year old Jyotiraditya Scindia made his move into the world of rajneeti - a transition that seemed so effortless that very few questions were raised. And today, he is moving full steam ahead. After a stint in Harvard and Stanford, Scindia came back home to look after the family business. But after the untimely demise of his father, the late Madhav Rao Scindia, Jyotiraditya had to learn the ropes of politics and plunged in headfirst. Initially, stepping into his fathers' footsteps was a tough task, but Jyotiraditya had watched his father interacting with the people of Gwalior from the sidelines and soon he was the darling of the people of Guna - the constituency he represents in the Lok Sabha. In Hyderabad for the AICC plenary, he drew curious glances from people as he stepped out of a limousine at the Taj Krishna. Clad in a kurta-pyjamaand a bandhgala, he exuded charm as he greeted the other Congressmen and bowled over the reception committee who vied with each other to greet him. While many were satisfied with a handshake, some embarrassed the Congressman by showering him with pearls. Though actively involved in politics during his father's tenure, Jyotiraditya's two stints as an MP have certainly taught him a lot. He says he has also learnt a lot from the veterans of the party and vehemently backs Sonia Gandhi's leadership as UPA chairman. He is not only seen as someone with a pleasant personality, but also as a man who feels passionately about a few issues. His heart beats for the poor and needy and at the same time, he expresses displeasure about the cash for questions scandal that shook the country recently.M. RAJEEV AND RAVI REDDY
