French Connection UK or FCUK, Britain’s high-street fashion brand comes to Bangalore

Here comes another clothing brand to Bangalore. French connection UK (FCUK), Britain’s high-street fashion brand, which first came to India with the Lakme India Fashion Week last year has now registered its presence in the IT city by opening their first store at Lifestyle Oasis mall in Koramangala followed by its second store at Bangalore International Airport.

The store has kicked off with the Spring Summer 08 collection. And you have a lot to choose from. Starting with women, you would find lots of dresses in trapeze cuts, which is the current international rage. There are tops and dresses, which are fitted at the waist and flare out. The purple georgette ankle length outfit that Shruti Haasan wore at the launch is ideal for a cocktail evening. For a retro feel, you can pick up the cream and navy bold stripe panelled prom dress. “Just one look and you can make out that it is an FCUK dress. It has such a distinct style. Our clothes are edgy and have a certain attitude. The women’s collection comprises clothes which suit all body types,” says Bhavana B. Darira, director, marketing, Murjani group, a global group responsible for bringing FCUK in India. Their classic dresses are also the expensive lot. Starting from Rs. 3,000 they go on till Rs. 8,000.

The smock tops and loose flowing shirts that get tied up with large bows at the collar in striped cotton have a summery feel. White crochet single shoulder top go well with denim shorts. There is lot of denim to be found here. The frill front shirts, dresses, skirts, dungarees and jeans in wide leg, high waisted and super skinny fits in denims is appealing.

For men, FCUK has much-in-demand tie-n-die t-shirts in a whole range of colours. There are FCUK signature logo tees with slogans like “Do I fcuk” in pink, green, blue, grey has quite a fan following. “Customers keep coming back for the tees,” says Bhavna. Natural linens, cottons, fine knit in a colour palette of greys, muted green, lemon yellow form major part of men’s wardrobe. Graphic print t-shirts, loose fit trousers, blazer jackets, drawstring cargo pants and light wash roll-up jeans are other offerings for the men folk. The fabric mostly used is cotton and linen.

The women accessories’ section has oversized bags in metallic bronze, silver and high-shine PVC plus long strand beaded necklaces, chunky bangles, belts and caps. Men can opt for bright nylon sports bag, satchel bags with internal laptop compartments, scarves in open weave patterns and graphic prints belts.

What’s interesting is that FCUK collection has four seasons — spring/summer, mid-summer, autumn/winter and even Christmas. “We have 12 collections over a year which means a new collection every month to choose from,” adds Bhavna.

The range for this collection varies from Rs. 995 to Rs. 5,000.

Less embellishments, simple cuts, on the whole, the collection has a classic and international appeal.
