My first break - Vijayalakshmi

How it happened

I was interested in acting because my father (director Agathiyan) was in the industry. However, I didn’t enter filmdom through him. I was hosting a breakfast show ‘Hello Thamizha’ on Vijay Television. I knew Venkat Prabhu well; he used to come home to meet my father. When he asked me whether I was interested in doing a role in his movie Chennai -28, I agreed. Working in the film was a good experience as nearly all the persons involved in it were sons of big wigs in the industry. Each one wanted to give their best and come up in life. I too wanted to do so and it worked wonders for me.

How it felt

I’ve seen myself on television, but it felt really great to see myself on the big screen. After the film’s release, I became popular overnight. I wanted to do just one film and leave the industry. But Chennai – 28 made me do more films and now I’m keen on donning varied roles. This industry is great for talented people and those who wish to do hard work.

How life changed

Life is entertaining and full of fun. The fact that I’m a known face makes me happy. Nothing much has changed on the home front. After Chennai-28 I did Anjathey, which was a rewarding experience. Now I am doing three films which include Athey Neeram Athey Idam and a lead role in director Vishnuvarthan’s production. But working with Super Star Rajnikant in his Sultan the Warrior is the best thing to have happened to me. I just can’t believe I am working with him. I shouted and danced on the first day, first show of his recent mega hit Sivaji. After meeting him on the set, I discovered he is a down to earth and simple person. He puts everybody at their ease by talking to them.
