Healthy 2011

A part from the usual tips on cutting down on sugars, salt and fatty foods, try these interesting tips to change your lifestyle for the better in 2011.

Eat home-made meals rather than ready-to-eat meals. Plan and make your meals interesting at home. Get a cookbook with a variety of recipes, shop for local and fresh foods. Also host parties at home and cut down on the frequency of eating out.

Fill up with colourful fruits and vegetables, the foundation of a healthy diet. They are low in calories and nutrient rich. Fruits and vegetables should be part of every meal, and your first choice for a snack — aim for a minimum of five portions each day.

Calcium and vitamin D should be essential components in your diet. Water is as vital as food. Drink water rather than caffeinated and/or energy drinks. Nothing hydrates you better.

Make exercise a routine. Walk, run, jog or swim. Whatever form of exercise, do it regularly. It is not the weight loss alone; it is about your overall well-being. And, finally set yourself for success and think about the healthier options you can include right into your busy schedule.
