Thilakavathy prepares delicious Malay dishes and bakes a variety of cakes

This magnificent city has been my surrogate home for more than sevenyears and will continue to be so. And my gratitude continues to multiply each time I receive your emails and phone calls. Thank you ever so much for your warm wishes and care. There have been several requests for recipes that I have collected from my travels around the world. Tried and tested and tasted recipes from the greatest chefs of the gourmet capitals of the world. I will be emailing these to all of you who have requested for them and should there be any more requests, please do feel free to email me. I'm always happy to share these bounties.

Baking delight

"Everything I do, I do it for you" sings Bryan Adam as the talented and hardworking Thilakavathy busily and deftly bakes cakes, while listening to her favourite music. She did this in Kuala Lumpur (where she hails from) and in Berlin (where her in-laws live) and now in Chennai where she has moved in.

A Malay national married to a German and settled in Chennai, that's my idea of a deliciously small world. And when she bakes and treats us to the German Streusel cake enriched with apples then it gets even more delicious.

Thilakavathy also specialises in moist chocolate cake for which she only uses corn oil. Since she is busy with her German language classes you need to give her at least two or three days notice. At our "Goodfood tasting session" I am delighted to know that she can make my favourite Malay Rendang and Nasi Lemak and others dishes.

The Malay cuisine is one of the tastiest and fragrant and on my trips there I've brought back some authentic recipes. I'd be happy to share them with you. Thila stays in Besant Nagar. You can call her at 98411 89710.
