Musicians converge at Mantralayam

A confluence of over 100 popular Carnatic musicians paid their respects to Guru Sri Raghavendra Swami on his Vardhanti day (March 6) at his Moolabrindavanam, Mantralayam. The two-day programme, being organised successfully for the second year by R. Ganesh under the auspices of Sri Maharajapuram Santhanam Rasikas Trust, featured a series of music concerts by eminent artistes. The Nada Haaram, started with a Layavinyasam at 6 p.m on March 5, in which more than 20 percussionists and a host of other vidwans participated. After this the Gajavahanotsavam and Rathotsavam took place with the traditional playing of Mallari by Thiruppambaram T.K.S. Swaminathan and T.K.S. Meenakshisundaram (nagaswaram) with Thirukkarugavur Sivagurunathan on special tavil.On Vardhanthi day, the programmes started with Mangala Isai by Thiruppambaram Brothers followed by the special event, Nada Haaram, which was inaugurated by Sri Venkata Narayana, Chief Editor of Usha Kirana in the presence of Chandrasekar, Minister for Urban Development, Government of Karnataka and Sri Rajagopalachar, secretary to Sri Sushmeendra Theertha Swamiji of the Math. Eminent musicians sat around the idols of Prahlada Rayaru and the Silver idol of Sri Raghavendra Swamigal in 16 groups — each group consisting of artists of various categories. The group singing was led by musicians T.K.Govinda Rao and P.S.Narayanaswamy. Layavinyasam was led by T.K.Murthy after which the artistes who participated were honoured individually by the Math.
