Documenting a rebellion

A DOCUMENTARY film on Kayyur rebellion is in the making. The shooting of the 30-minute docu-film, titled `Salam Kayyur,' was completed on March 15, leaving only the post-production work.

The Kayyur rebellion is one of the well-known anti-colonial movements against the British rule Kerala had witnessed. The film is based on the story of the four members of the Karshaka Sangham - Madathil Appu, Kozhithattil Chirukantan, Podora Kunjambu Nair and Aboobacker, who were hanged by the British.

The film tells the story through a Kerala-born research scholar from the United States, who comes to Kerala to research on the Kayyur rebellion that took place on March 29, 1943. The experience she has during her research work transforms her thoughts about the rebellion and the place.

Anoop Chandran and Kukku Gopal portray the main characters in the film, directed by Gopi Kuttikol. Kannada telefilm actor Pradeep enact the role of a police constable who was killed in the rebellion (Subarayan). Sunny Joseph of Deshabhimani has written the script for the film, produced by Sobha Raveendran. While the lyrics are by Karivellur Murali, the music is by Kanjangad Ramachandran.

Filmed under the banner of Good Dreams Vision, `Salam Kayyur' will be telecast on Kairali Television on March 29, which also marks the 62nd anniversary of the rebellion.
