A.R. Krishna’s contribution to theatre was recalled.

Padmabhushan A.R. Krishna was a great stage actor and producer. He was the first stage artiste to receive the prestigious title in the drama field. Krishna enriched the stage with his social plays that were imaginative and innovative.

His production Malapalli of Unnava Lakshminarayana, with a cast of nearly 100 artistes and natural sets, was a trendsetter. The play was staged more than 100 times all over the country. Krishna was considered the pioneer of modern social drama.

Krishna’s 12th Vardhanthi was jointly organised by Rangasthala Kalakarula Ikya Vedika and Andhra Pradesh Theatre at Kshetrayya Kala Kshetram in a fitting manner. The speakers paid glorious tributes to A.R. Krishna. It was shocking that one of the speakers, while referring to him, mistook him for late T. Krishna — the director of the movie Pratighatana.

The meeting was followed by a play staged by child artistes from Home for the Needy Children, Hyderabad, and produced by Andhra Pradesh Theatre. The play titled Bangaru Bidda was neatly presented by the child artistes.
