Book release

Music Education Trust, Madras Chapter, and SRJ Well Wishers’ Forum have organised a function for the release of S. R. Janakiraman’s ‘Essentials of Musicology in South Indian Music,’ today (May 9), 6.15 p.m., at Kasturi Srinivasan Hall (The Music Academy mini hall). N. Murali, managing director The Hindu and president, The Music Academy, presides. Kalpakam Swaminathan releases the book and Prof. T.R. Subramanyam receives the first copy. P.S.Narayanaswamy and Sriram Parasuram felicitate.

Award for musician

Veena exponent Revathy Krishna was honoured with the prestigious ‘Kumar Gandharva’ award on April 5 by the Kumar Gandharva Foundation, Mumbai. The award, instituted in the name of Hindustani classical singer Kumar Gandharva, is given to a Carnatic and Hindustani classical musician every alternate year.

Bharatanatyam series

Kartik Fine Arts is conducting the Talent Promotion Bharatanatyam series at Narada Gana Sabha Mini Hall.

The programme, which was inaugurated on May 7 by dancer Radhika Surjit, will feature the dance recitals of Lalitha Harikrishnan and J.Meenakshi on May 9, 6 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. respectively and Sweta Ravishankar, on May 10 at 6 p.m.

DVDs of docus and serials

Moser Baer releases 11 documentaries and TV serials produced by Krishnaswamy Associates, which include ‘Indus Valley to Indira Gandhi,’ ‘Oorarinda Ragasiyam,’ ‘Unmai Sudum’ and ‘Thuppariyum Sambu,’ on May 10, 6 p.m., at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore.
