V asavi College of Music and Dance as part of its monthly programme had Shrita Lakshmi perform Kuchipudi dance along with other dancers recently. The talented dancer exhibited technique and rhythm on stage. She also performed at Ravindra Bharati under the auspices of Chaitanya Art Theatres. Shrita's mother Sunita Pendekanti is a Kuchipudi dancer as well and has established the Kuchipudi Arts Centre in the US. Vasavi College of Music and Dance is an institute for learning Indian classical art forms. Sponsored by Vasavi Academy of Education it was established in 1996. Training is imparted in dances such as Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam as well as Hindustani and Carnatic vocal.

Instruments like sitar, veena, tabla, harmonium and mridangam are also taught.

The college was started in memory of Pendekanti Venkata Subbaiah, former Governor of Bihar and Karnataka, who was a great connoisseur of art and who patronised the artistes' community.
