The DVD of the critically acclaimed animation film ‘Persepolis’ has been released in India.

Excel Home Videos and NDTV Lumiere announce the DVD launch of the critically acclaimed Academy Award nominated animation film ‘Persepolis,’ in India. ‘Persepolis’ is based on the international best-selling autobiographical graphic comic-book series by Franco-Iranian artist Marjane Satrapi. Marjane collaborated with comic artist Vincent Paronnaud to co-direct this animated movie adaptation, which is a gripping and enthralling tale of a young girl in war-torn Iran, who overcomes several obstacles to mature into a wise woman.

The film won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and was named Best Animated Feature by the New York Critics Circle, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and the New York Online Film Critics. It also won the Freedom of Expression Award from the National Board of Review. The film has been made in three different languages, namely English, French and Persian to cater to a universal audience. The English language version features the voices of Sean Penn, Gena Rowlands and Iggy Pop.

The DVD is packed with bonus features such as making of the movie and filmography and so on. Says Roby Abraham, CEO, Excel Home Videos, “‘Persepolis’ depicts the journey of a young, spirited, restless Iranian girl, Marjane, who as a child, is a first hand witness to the Islamic revolution.

“When Marjane’s uncle is killed in the Iran/Iraq war, her parents send her to a school in Austria, where she can study in safety. The only trouble is that her appearance frightens people, giving her a harsh lesson in racial prejudice. Somehow, Marjane’s fiery spirit doesn’t succumb to any of the negativity. Eventually, she returns home to Iran to be with her family. But the tyrannical pressures of Iranian society force her to make the heartbreaking decision of leaving her country once again for France, optimistic about a future shaped indelibly by her past.”

This black and white film deals with everything from love, war, rebellion, freedom and acceptance and is all about growing up and finding your place in the world. The DVD of ‘Persepolis’ is available across the country for Rs.499.
