A turnaround

A new dimension: Srikanth

A new dimension: Srikanth

INTERVIEW Soon to be released ‘Poo’ finds ‘city guy’ Srikanth in a rural ambience. S.R. ASHOK KUMAR

Marriage has brought me luck. Also I’m a more balanced person now. I pay attention to quality when I choose films.

Starting his career with a bang, Srikanth has accounted for more than a dozen films in six years. He begins his post-marriage innings with ‘Poo.’ The rural background is new for the hero who is all excited about it. Excerpts from an interview:

Your career graph seems to be showing the upward trend these days…

(Smiles) Yes, marriage has brought me luck. Also I’m a more balanced person now. I pay attention to quality when I choose films.

About ‘Poo…’

I’m happy that my image as an urban guy will change with this film. Whatever created the impression, I don’t know. I’ve never had an opportunity to act in a village subject. Director Sasi thought that it was time I started exploring different dimensions. I hope this is the beginning of a new phase.

How was the experience?

In ‘Roja Kootam’ I was new and others were established artists. On the contrary, ‘Poo’ has all new comers directed by Sasi who launched me. Working with director Sasi has always been a pleasure. He watches the artist closely and it is very difficult to please him. ‘Poo’ is a pleasant poetic film which will captivate hearts.

After ‘Poo’ what are the films you have lined up?

‘Indira Vizha’ by director K. Rajeshwar, ‘Rasikum Seemane’ by director Vidyadharan, ‘Maa’ by S.D. Sabha, here I once again team up with Bhumika and Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music, ‘Police Police’ a bilingual by director Manmohan, ‘Maanavar Dinam’ with director Kadhir and music by A.R. Rahman for Ayngaran films and ‘Drohi’ for Gemini Films Circuit by debutant director Sudha, an associate of director Mani Ratnam.

Actors these days are turning to direction. What are your plans?

Right now my concentration is on acting. In six years of my film career, technically speaking, I have worked only for three years in which I have completed 15 films including ‘Chathurangam’ (unreleased). I have done films in Tamil and Telugu, the languages I fluently speak. But I have a long way to go, a lot to learn and do.
