Vijayawada lad makes a mark in ACT

For 17-year-old Mamidi Sai Akash it’s a great achievement. He stood on top in American College Test (ACT) and all the world famous universities have sent letters congratulating him and offering him scholarships and admission.

Akash, son of M.A. Gupta and Lakshmi, appeared for second year Intermediate examinations and is waiting for results. Mr. Gupta is the architect of Superwhizz CA and CPT coaching institute in Vijayawada.

Akash appeared for ACT held at Mumbai in September 2015. The results were announced on March 31 in US and on the next day in India. Akash secured first rank in the test by securing 36/36 marks. He scored 800 out of 800 in SAT-2, a subject test in mathematics and physics.

As many as 16 universities, including California Institute of Technology, Yale, Princeton University, University of Washington, University of Texas in Austin, University of California, Dartmouth, Michigan University, Stanford University offered admission to the ACT topper.

ACT is an organisation, authorised by various institutes and universities across the globe. I decided to join Stanford University, in BS Degree with Computer Science and Business as core subjects, Mr. Akash told The Hindu .

“It gives me immense pleasure to invite you into the Stanford family as a member of the Stanford Class of 2020. The admission committee and the entire admission staff join me in sending congratulations. We are impressed by your passion, determination and accomplishments. Stanford is a place to grow and begin to define your place in the world,” said Richard H. Shaw, Dean of Admission and Financial Aid in the invitation mailed to Mr. Akash.

A native of Vijayawada, Akash completed schooling in the city and completed intermediate in a private college in Hyderabad. The youngster prepared for ACT on his own for three months and stood on top in the world in the test in his first attempt.


“My aim is to become a technology expert and start a company after completing degree. An entrepreneur can offer jobs to several people,” said Mr. Akash and thanked his parents and teachers for their support.
