REFRESHER WITH A DIFFERENCE: For 21 days beginning December 28, the Academic Staff College of the University of Kerala will host a refresher programme in Women's Studies - a programme that is not very often organised.

The inter-disciplinary programme has been formulated in such a way as to benefit those involved in "gender support activities" in the university's colleges and it is expected to provide "conceptual and practical guidance" for those working in gender-related areas.

The course would consist of four modules. The first module would be introductory in nature and will give participants a background on the subject. The second module will take up for discussion such topics as women and family, women and governance, women and health, sexuality, language and gender and representation of women in media.

Field visits, small-scale surveys and studies will form part of the third module. The fourth and final module will be a consolidation of the findings of the surveys and will devise effective methods for interventions in gender-related issues.
