IIT-JEE-2008

Applications have been invited for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-2008) to be held on April 13, 2008 on an all-India basis for admissions to undergraduate and integrated M.Tech. dual degree /five-year integrated M.Tech./ M.Sc. courses conducted by all the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Institute of Technology of Banares Hindu University, Varanasi, and the Indian School of Mines at Dhanbad. IITs are functioning at Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur and Roorkee.

All Indian and foreign nationals seeking admission to these reputed institutes must appear for IIT-JEE 2008. One can attempt JEE only twice in consecutive years.

Those who have passed Plus Two / equivalent examination with mathematics, physics, chemistry with 60 percent marks / equivalent grade in the aggregate (55 percent marks for SC/ST/PH candidates) or those who are appearing for the qualifying examination in 2008 are eligible to appear for IIT-JEE 2008. Meritorious engineering diploma holders can also apply.

Applications should be born on or after October 1, 1983. The upper-age limit is relaxed by five years for SC/ST/PH students.

JEE-2008 will consist of two papers, each of three hours duration.

Paper 1, Paper 2 will each have three separate sections covering physics, chemistry and mathematics. Both papers will be of the objective type, designed to test comprehension, reasoning and analytical ability of the students.

Aptitude tests for B.Arch. and B.Des. programmes will be conducted for those students who qualify in JEE and are desirous of joining these programmes.

One can submit the application either online or offline, using application forms.

Application forms with the information brochure can be purchased for Rs.1,000 (Rs.500 for SC/ST and female students) from the Canara Bank branches in Thiruvananthapuram (M.G. Road), Kochi (Mattencherry), Thrissur (Rama Raj Building Round) Kozhikode (Cherrooty Road) and Kannur. Forms will be distributed from November 23 onwards.

Online submission of application is possible from November 23 at any of the websites of IITs, including http://jee.iitm.ac.in. Last date for receipt of completed application at the IITs is January 4. B.Sc. Nautical Science

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has invited applications for admission to its B.Sc. Nautical Science programme commencing in February 2008.

This programme has been designed and developed in collaboration with the Directorate General of Shipping, so as to equip students for a career in the Merchant Navy.

Entry qualification is 10 +2 with physics, chemistry and mathematics with not less than 55 per cent marks in these three science subjects or B.Sc. Physics with 50 per cent marks or BE/B.Tech.

Candidates should have passed English with minimum 50 percent marks either in the 10/12 standards or in the degree level examinations. Applicants should medically and physically fit and have normal eyesight.

Selection is on the basis of an All-India level entrance test to be held on December 23.

The National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management, Hyderabad has invited applications for admission to its Postgraduate Programmes in Agri-Business Management (PGPABM) and Agri-Warehousing and Supply Chain Management (PGPAWASCM). Duration of PGPABM is two years and one year for PGPAWASCM. Entry qualification is a four-year Bachelors Degree in Agriculture or allied subjects, Veterinary Science or Dairy Technology, Food Technology. The admission test will be conducted February 10.

Application form and other details can be downloaded from the website >www.manage.gov.in. The application fee is Rs.1,200/(Rs.600 for SC/ST). Completed application forms should be sent to the Principal Co-ordinator (PGPABM), National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Rajendranagar, Hyderabad- 500030 (AP), so as to reach the addressee on or before December 11.
