It contains database of all IT professionals

THE NATIONAL Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM), the premier trade body and "voice" of the IT software and service industry in India, has launched the first ever National Skills Registry (NSR) for IT professionals. The Union Minister of Information Technology and Communications, Dayanidhi Maran, launched NSR at the India-U.S. Information Security Summit 2006 recently.NASSCOM has done so in collaboration with the National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) in an attempt to further strengthen security in the Indian IT industry. This will be a centralised database of information about the employee's professional and educational background. NSR has been specifically designed to ensure authenticity of data through independent verification and biometric identification of the individual.Kiran Karnik, President, NASSCOM, said, "Security has always been a priority area for us and we have made a continuous effort to make India a secure outsourcing destination through various initiatives. NSR is a global first of its kind and this central repository will contain personal, professional and educational information about employees of the IT and BPO industry. Independent verification of data and biometric identification will not only increase security for all companies and customers, but will also protect employees from the criminal elements seeking to misuse their ID. This will be one more step towards sustaining India's competitive advantage in the global market."
