THE INDIAN Institute of Materials Management (IIMM), India's only professionally recognised body for materials and supply chain management, is starting three certificate courses from the third week of November.

The institute, through its membership, branches and chapters all over the country, represents a wide spectrum of professionals engaged in the various facets of materials and supply chain management.

Keeping in view the needs of the local public and private sector organisations, the IIMM is conducting three certificate courses in International Trade, Logistics Management and E-Supply Chain Management.

Organisations have realised that materials which form a major input in production need to be managed effectively to improve profitability.

Foreign trade assumes prime importance in the field of exports and imports to help the country earn valuable foreign exchange and augment developmental effort. In this context, the job of materials and supply chain management personnel becomes extremely difficult and challenging. They have to know the policies, procedures and systems in the field of exports and imports to make organisations meet their objectives with less cost and delay.

This course aims at imparting training to the personnel working in these areas and to those who want to enter the area of foreign trade.

The duration of the course is six months and the minimum qualification for admission is 10+2.

The course fee is Rs. 6,000, which includes examination fee and course materials.

The objective of the course is to provide contemporary inputs in the area of logistics management. In today's context, the explosion of information technology and the emergence of e-commerce have made many organisations recognise the importance of logistics as a strategic weapon to provide value-added service to customers and at the same time reduce the total cost.

The duration of the course is six months and the minimum qualification for admission is completion of degree or equivalent course. The course fee is Rs. 11,000, which includes examination fee and course material.

Supply chain is now the recognised discipline to shorten cycle time, transform purchasing from a tactical operation to strategic sourcing, reduce inventories, decrease logistics costs and streamline communication processes across a total network, from initial supplies to final consumption and post-sale service. The course makes the students understand the impact of internet and e-commerce on supply chain management. This course would equip them to use technology and e-commerce as a powerful tool for restructuring and redefining the supply chain management in the new digital economy. The course fee is Rs. 15,000, which includes examination fee and course material.
