Dravidian varsity’s short-term fellowship

Here’s an opportunity for creative writers and scholars to complete their current ongoing work at a calm and serene location.

The Dravidian University located in Andhra Pradesh is offering short-term visiting fellowships to writers and scholars of the five major Dravidian languages — Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam and Tulu.

The fellowship is being offered as part of ‘Dravida Bhashotsavam’ organised by the university in collaboration with the International School of Dravidian Linguistics, from January 18 to 27, 2008 at the university campus.

The fellowship carries Rs. 500 per day for all 10 days and II class A/C travel charges from the place of residence of the recipient to Kuppam and back. The scholars and writers are invited to address the students and academic community in the campus and for such lectures the remuneration will be paid as per University Grants Commission norms.

The university would require a copy of their finished works completed during the fellowship programme. If the university desires to take up the work for publication, separate remuneration will be paid.

The university invites proposals along with a brief note on the recent work in not more than one page from the scholars and writers of all five languages mentioned. If the number of applications received is more, then only two fellowships will be awarded to each language.

The proposals may be sent to: The Registrar, Dravidian University, Srinivasapuram, Kuppam -517425, Andhra Pradesh. Applications have to reach the addressee before January 4, 2008. Phone: 08570-278220 or 278211.
