Study on social sciences research in India

Mahendra Nath Pandey, Minister of State for Human Resource Development, released a volume of the comprehensive study on ‘Social Science Research in India: Status, Issues and Policies’ recently. The book is the outcome of the study commissioned by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR). The city-based Institute of Public Enterprise (IPE) was also a part of it.

R.K. Mishra, director, IPE, received the copy of the edited volume for IPE’s contribution on the chapter ‘sources of funding for social science research in India’ jointly authored by research coordinator Jayasree Raveendran.

The study finds out that in 2010-11, the share of expenditure on social science research (SSR) as percentage of the total Union budget was 0.025 per cent, whereas it was 0.86 per cent for pure science research.
