Robotics workshop at SCMS cultural fete

A robotics workshop ‘Roboliga', conducted by Thinklabs, an initiative of IIT Mumbai alumni, will be one of the highlights of IGNIZ 2010, the cultural festival of SCMS School of Engineering and Technology, Angamaly, scheduled for January 29 and 30.

The 16-hour workshop will be spread over both days, and it has been organised so far only in a few regional centres in the country, the festival organisers said.

Technical events will dominate the first day of the festival and cultural events the second day. Technical workshops, project exhibitions, an auto expo and a professional show by a musical band are part of the programme, which is being held at the college campus at Karukutty, in Ernakulam district.

Over 100 colleges in this part of the country have been invited to take part in the events and the prize money on offer totals Rs 2.25 lakh. Abraham Varghese, Depty. Director of ISRO's moon impact probe-Chandrayan, will attend the opening ceremony.

A microcontroller-based robotics workshop will help students learn the fundamentals of designing and building autonomous robots. It also focuses on embedded systems, artificial intelligence and automation.
