NEST 2010



Applications have been invited for the National Entrance Screening Test (NEST 2010) to be conducted on June 6 across the country for admission to five-year integrated M.Sc. programmes offered by UM-DAE Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (CBS), Mumbai; National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubhaneswar, and the Integrated Science Education and Research Centre, Visva Bharati, Santhiniketan.

The UM-DAE Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences, Mumbai, under the Department of Atomic Energy, offers five-year integrated M.Sc. programme in biological, chemical, mathematical and physical sciences, and the degree is awarded by the University of Mumbai. Total seats: 30 (http://cbs.ac.in)

The NISER, Bhubaneswar, established by the Department of Atomic Energy, offers five-year integrated M.Sc. programme in biological, chemical, mathematical and physical sciences. The degree will be awarded by the Homi Bhabha National Institute, a deemed university of the DAE.

At present, NISR functions from the campus of the Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar. Total seats: 60. (http://niser.ac.in).

Integrated Science Education and Research Centre, Visva Bharathi, Santhiniketan, offers a five-year integrated M.Sc. degree in physical sciences. Total seats: 21. (http://visva-bharati.ac.in).

All the institutes have residential campuses. All students enrolled at CBS and NISER will receive a fellowship of Rs.5000 per month along with other benefits. Students enrolled at Visva Barathi will be eligible to apply for INSPIRE fellowships.

Eligibility: Those who have passed Plus Two or equivalent examination in the relevant science subjects in the year 2008 or 2009 with 60 per cent marks in aggregate can apply. Those appearing for the qualifying exam this year can also apply. Applicants should be born on or after October 1, 1985, relaxable by 5 years for SC/ ST/ PD categories.

Apply online through www.nestexam.in and take a print out and send it along with the application fee in the form of a demand draft/ postal order to the Chief Co-ordinator, NEST 2010 , UM-DAE, CBS, Health Centre Building, University of Mumbai- Vidyanagari Campus, Santa Cruz (E), Mumbai – 400098 so as to reach the addressee on or before March 16.

The application fee for male general category and male OBC students is Rs.500. The fee for male SC/ ST/ PD and all female applicant is Rs.250. The fee should be paid in the form of a demand draft/ postal order drawn in favour of NEST – 2010 payable at Mumbai.

The NEST 2010 will consist of five sections. Section I is general and compulsory for all applicants. Section 2-5 will contain questions from biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics respectively. The candidates are required to attempt any two of these four sections. The NEST – 2010 will have objective-type questions designed to test candidates' subject comprehension and analytical ability. Nanomedical sciences

The Amrita Centre for Nanosciences under the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, has invited applications for an entrance test to be held on March 21 for admission to its M.Tech. programme in nanomedical sciences. Total number of seats is 20. Students admitted to the course will be eligible for fellowships from the Department of Science and Technology.

Those who have obtained an M.Sc. degree in physical sciences, B.Tech., M.Pharm., MBBS or BDS can apply. GATE scholars need not appear for the entrance test.
