Films blamed for rising violence

Condemning the spate of violent attacks on the girl students by the lovelorn youth on the campuses of various educational institutions throughout the State, students of The Hindu Eplus Club of SRM degree and PG college in Karimnagar blamed the present-day films for influencing the youth to resort to such violent acts.

Participating in a group discussion on the topic ‘Violence against the girls on college campuses’, majority of the Eplus Club members stressed on the need for imparting martial arts and other self-defence techniques for girls from high school to professional colleges to protect themselves.

They also suggested the government to conduct awareness programmes in all educational institutions to check crime against the girl students. Ramya said that movies projecting the violent acts of teasing and harassing girls as heroism, should be banned .

Anil Kumar said that the film directors and producers were ruining the career of the youth by making movies on lovelorn youth and provoking others for their selfish monetary gains.

When some students suggested exemplary punishment for those harassing girls in the colleges, Sameera Naaz, a B.Sc first year student suggested that the accused should be counselled in front of his friends and family members.

She also suggested removal of co-education system in higher education.
