Applications invited for SET 2010

The LBS Centre for Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, has invited applications for State Eligibility Test (SET 2010). The test will be held on June 6 at all the district headquarters in the State.

A pass in this exam is mandatory for appointment as higher secondary school teachers and non-vocational teachers.

The exam will have two papers. Paper I is common for all candidates and will consist of two parts—general knowledge and aptitude in teaching.

Paper II shall be a postgraduate-level test on the subject of specialisation of the candidate. Candidates can choose from 37 subjects for Paper II.

Candidates will have to answer 120 questions in 120 minutes for paper I. In paper II, for mathematics and statistics, 80 questions will carry 1.5 marks each and the rest one mark each.

The test will be objective multiple-choice type questions. Negative marking system will be followed for paper valuation. For every wrong answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted from the total marks secured.

Those who secure at least 35 per cent marks for paper I and II separately and at least 50 per cent of the aggregate marks for both papers are eligible to qualify in the SET. The syllabus of SET 2010 can be downloaded from the website www.lbskerala.com,

Eligibility

Those who have a second-class Master's degree in the concerned subject with not less than 50 per cent marks and a B.Ed. degree in any discipline from any one of the universities in Kerala or equivalent thereto can apply.

For mathematics, physics, chemistry, botany and zoology, applicants should have a second class M.Sc. degree and a B.Ed. in the concerned subject with not less than 50 per cent marks from one of the Regional Institutes of Education under NCERT.

For botany and zoology, applicants must have an M.Sc. degree (at least second class) and B.Ed. degree in life sciences (with not less than 50 per cent marks).

For the subjects such as anthropology , commerce, computer science/ information technology, electronics, French, Gandhian studies, geology, German, home science, journalism, Latin, music, Russian , social work, sociology, statistics, Syriac, philosophy and psychology, candidates need not acquire B.Ed. degree for appearing for the SET 2010.

Those who have a second class Master's degree in communicative English with not less than 50 per cent marks and a B.Ed. degree are eligible to appear for SET in English.

Those who have acquired qualification through correspondence course/ open universities which are not recognised by any one of the universities in Kerala are not eligible to appear for the SET. If such qualifications are recognised, should produce equivalency certificate from any one of the universities in Kerala.

Those who are admitted for B.Ed. in the year 2009and are appearing for the final year Master's degree examinations are also eligible to apply for SET 2010. No age limit is prescribed for candidates appearing for the SET.

How to apply

Application forms and prospectus can be purchased from all Head Post Offices in Kerala on payment of Rs.500.

The forms will be distributed up to April 17. Before sending the duly filled-in application to the Director of LBS Centre, the applicant should also register online through the website www.lbskerala.com, www.lbscentre.org.
