The Society For The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is giving away three-litre troughs, requesting people to fill them with water and have them placed on the streets for the benefit of stray dogs, cats and cattle.

“As of now, we have placed around 300 troughs in Anna Nagar, Kilapauk, Purasaiwakkam, Korattur, Vepery. Since 2017, every May, we have been carrying out this exercise. We will be placing another 200 troughs in Adyar, T. Nagar and Mylapore. Those who want to be a part of this initiative can get troughs from us. We also deliver them at people’s doorsteps. People can also support this initiative by sponsoring troughs. We tend to feed stray dogs. But equally important is providing them with water which many of us ignore. At the height of summer, animals are also prone to get heat strokes. Hence this initiative,” says R. Sokkalingam, veterinary officer with SPCA.
