One-day symposium on ‘Save Food Initiative’

In commemoration of World Environment Day, Thiruvanmiyur-based Forum for Community Building and Leadership is organising a symposium on ‘Save Food Initiative’ on June 5.

This initiaitve is supported by the Department of Planning, School of Architecture and Planning, Anna University; Department of Coastal Resource Management, Madras Christian College; and Prakruthi Outwardbound Experiential Learning Centre, Besant Nagar.

As part of the programme, Fisheries Survey of India will handle a session on ‘Reduce Your ‘Food’ Print.’ The natural resources of the landscapes described in Tamil literature — Neithal (coast), Marudham (plains), Palai (desert), Kurinji (hills), and Mullai (forests) — will be explained by resourcepersons from the Centre for Marine Fisheries Research Institute, National Agro Foundation, Department of Marine Studies and Coastal Resource Management of Madras Christian College, and M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation.

Also, a brief sea expedition from Chennai harbour to Kasimedu fishing harbour, in sailing boats, will be taken out to help participants understand the importance of coastal resources. For details, contact 99403 55521.
