Will the cuts work?

Gautham Vasudev Menon’s Vaaranam Aayiram, an ode to his father, opened to mixed response — some reviews praised it as a film for niche audiences, while a few termed it inane. The word-of-mouth reviews have also been mixed, but the opening run seems to be good. Family audiences have taken to it for the emotional quotient, and the youth for the romance. Gautham, known for his taut films, went in for a 12-minute trim after the first couple of shows. This has worked in his favour as those who saw it after the first day seem to be loving the movie and this is bringing back those who shied away from it after the opening day’s reports. Recently, he was quoted as saying: “I am elated at the response and feel overwhelmed as I made this movie as honestly as I could.”
