Pattiyal Sekar’s next venture with his son Krishna, (director Vishnu Vardhan’s brother) Katradu Kalavu is produced by Talking Times. This is his second film under the banner, after last year’s debut Alibaba. The film is directed by ad film maker D. Balaji, but the story and screenplay are by Kumaravel, who played the domestic help in Abhiyum Naanum. Asked about this departure, Balaji says: “It’s better to give a task to the person who handles it best.” Vijayalakshmi, who (of Anjathey and Chennai 28 fame) plays an airhostess, sheds her girl-next-door looks for a glamorous role. Says Vijayalakshmi: “I have had a complete make over. The whole look is very stylish.” Krishna, for his part, has gone in for a clean-shaven, lean look.

Finally, a lead

Despite doing a good job in films such as Vaanam Vasapadum, Kannamoochi Yenada and Poi Solla Porom, a lead role had been eluding Karthik Kumar. But, lady luck has finally smiled on him. He plays the protagonist in Ethuvum Nadakkum, directed by Rosario. He’s paired with Aparna Nair, making her debut in Kollywood. ‘Muruga’ Ramalingam plays the heroine’s grandfather. The film is being shot in and around Kochi in a 150-year-old bungalow. Says Karthik: “The film is a Hollywood-style thriller.”

Pinning hopes

Vedhika has no hits to her credit, and is now pinning her hopes on Malai Malai opposite Arun Vijay. The film is directed by Venkatesh. But the Mumbai girl does not want to be a glam doll. Those who have worked with her say: “Vedhika is not comfortable showing more than her ankle, but her attitude on the sets is like that of a Mumbai star.”

Waiting game

Narain, who proved his mettle in Anjathey, will not accept just about any role. The Chennai Film Institute graduate is listening to scripts by the dozen, but is not happy with any of them. He says: “I am bored of waiting. Not many directors can come up with a stylish flick. But, if there’s anyone with such a film, I’m interested.”
