Back on the big screen

Bhagyashree, the Maine Pyaar Kiya girl, has shot for her first Marathi film, Zhak Marli Baiko Kela. Whatever stopped her from doing a film in her mother tongue for this long? “I had been earlier approached for many Marathi films, but they wanted to shoot in one schedule. That meant being out of Mumbai for more than a month, which did not suit me.”

But, what tilted the scales for this film was it was a romantic comedy that goes on to deliver a strong message for women. “The script is great and I really wanted to be part of this film,” says the actor.

And the shoot? “Aah yes,” smiles Bhagyashree. “It was shot in Kohlapur which is close to my home town Sangli where my parents live. So, everything fell into place.” The film releases today and the Marathi mulgi is hopeful it will fare well at the box office. “I think Marathi films are going through their best phase. Mahesh Manjrekar’s recent Mee Shivaji Raje Bhosle Boltoy made more money than big Bollywood starrers.”
